Long Term Care Income Maintenance Technician

Montezuma County Department of Social Services has an opening for one Long Term Care Income Maintenance Technician.

Salary Range: $18.62 per hour, plus Health, Dental, Vision, Life, EAP, HSA Insurance, 10 paid Holidays, Paid Annual and Sick Leave and a 401K match.

SUMMARY: Determines initial and ongoing eligibility for Long Term Care, Adult Financial, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid. Responsible for data entry into the state CBMS system for initial and continual case management.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other assigned duties) • Interviews applicants in person or by phone to determine eligibility, based on income, financial resources, household composition, employment status and expenditures • Conducts research to verify child support, social security and unemployment payments • Identifies households in need of expedited services • Review applications for accuracy and completeness • Assists clients in completing forms and obtaining necessary documentation • Reviews RRR’s for ongoing eligibility, and updates information into state system in a timely manner. • Researches wage data reports to determine and compute fund recoveries and referrals for fraud investigations; documents and calculates recoveries and retroactive payments. • Participates in County mediation; prepares report for, attends and testifies at state evidentiary hearings for clients' appeals • Explains to applicants all rules, regulations, rights to appeal, budgeting cycles and eligibility requirements • Advises applicants of his/her rights and responsibilities and explains reasons for denial or certification • Processes redeterminations every six months for ongoing eligibility, and updates information into state system in a timely manner • Communicates to applicants and clients the purpose and expectations of the Montezuma County Department of Social Services • Prepares paperwork, data entry functions, and other processes in accordance with State and County rules, regulations and policies; implements the Quality Assurance Program by ensuring accuracy and timeliness of work • Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings and educational workshops

Education: Graduation from High School or GED Equivalent

Experience: Two years full time responsible work experience.

Special Requirements: Valid Colorado Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record. Must pass background check, drug screen and motor vehicle record check.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Working knowledge of public assistance rules, regulations and procedures • Record keeping, filing and preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials • Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary • General office procedures, policies and practices, as well as basic knowledge of standard office equipment to include computer, fax machine, copier, and telephone • Must be able to have a good working relationship with the DSS eligibility staff. Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff in order to give and receive information in a courteous manner • Ability to effectively plan, schedule and organize • Ability to assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions; ability to apply conflict resolution and problem solving skills • Maintain regular and punctual attendance • Ability to act with discretion, maintain confidentiality and be professional

Office Technology/Computer Skills: Must be able to effectively use modern office technology and equipment, including computers, calculators, telephone, copiers with scanning and faxing capabilities. Must have extensive experience in word processing, database manipulation, and email with a high degree of accuracy. Must be able to learn the software and programs related to the position and the County.

Ability to work extended shifts and attend training when asked and the ability to work in stressful situations
