Position Title: Community Kitchen Assistant

Reports To: Executive Chef

Position Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt, and Hourly (Hourly wage is $20.00.)

Schedule: Tuesday thru Saturday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (with a 30 minutes lunch break not clocked-in)

Supervises: Volunteers, Community Service Workers, Program Participants, and culinary students.

Location: The job cannot be performed remotely.

Summary of Position: Manages the daily operations of the Community Kitchen Take-out Window. The Community Kitchen Take-out Window Program includes all incoming food donations, all meal preparation, and distribution of meals. Oversees and supervises all volunteer and community service opportunities in the Community Kitchen Take-out Window. Assists in providing support in the Food Market and maintenance of the Manna campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as Food Safety Manager, ensuring all individuals handling food use proper safety precautions. 2. Oversees all incoming/outgoing food donations and daily pickups. 3. Manages, supports and trains volunteers and community service. 4. Orders supplies when needed. 5. Informs Executive Chef when supplies need to be ordered. Informs Executive Director when repairs and maintenance is needed. 6. Runs and operates the Community Kitchen per Manna’s Policies and Procedures Manual. Assures that the kitchen is in compliance with proper health codes and anyone/organization using the kitchens are in compliance with Manna’s policies and procedures and all health department regulations. 7. Prepares, cooks and distributes well-balanced nutritious meals. 8. Develops and maintains order guides and cleaning lists for Manna facilities. 9. Address program participants and volunteer’s needs. 10. Assist with all organizational fundraisers and events. 11. Build relationships with volunteers, store managers and other donors so that you know each other as the point person. Act as ambassador for Manna. 12. Work with the Community Kitchen Volunteer Coordinator to post volunteer opportunities on VOMO. 13. Participates in all Manna Staff Meetings and trainings. 14. Performs other duties as required or assigned by the Executive Chef and/or the Community Kitchen Facility Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions and Qualifications:

• Lifting 50 pounds on a regular basis. • Stooping, bending and twisting. Lifting things into high places and low places. Access spaces that are confined, such as in walk-in coolers, freezers, sheds and pantry. • Team player. • 1-3 years’ experience in food service, preferably in service of large numbers of people at one time. 2 • Current ServSafe Managers Certification, or must pass within six months of hire. It is acceptable to carry a minimum current Safe Food Handler Certification, or pass within first 90 days of hire, before passing the Managers Certification in six months. • Ability to be flexible, adapt to change, problem solve and multi-task. • Communication and conflict management skills. • Ability to show compassion, wisdom, boundaries and impartial judgement when dealing with staff, program participants and community members. • Understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion. • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, cultural sensitivity, and trauma informed care. • Knowledge and commitment to Manna’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. • Pass drug tests for employment and submit to random drug tests. • Pass a background check. • Must maintain a current driver’s license.
