Water System Technician
Mancos Rural Water Company is hiring! Applicants must have great people skills and have the ability to perform manual labor. Water treatment and distribution experience is a plus, but training will be provided for the right applicant. Alternating 3rd weekends is a must. Must be flexible for occasional overtime and call outs. Starting wage depends on experience.
Description: To participate in the work of maintenance crews responsible for Utility services in water distribution, water treatment and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
Essential Job Duties: The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned. Providing maintenance and repair services relating to distribution and treatment of water system. Ensure the adherence to safe work practices' and procedures. Participate in the use and operation of equipment needed for maintaining the water system. Maintain and operate the water treatment facility. Maintain the water distribution system, lay pipe, repair and replace water lines, repair leaks. Maintenance of water meters and ensure that meters are repaired and replaced as needed. Set water taps. Provide quality customer service to individuals needing assistance.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Methods and techniques of general construction, maintenance and repair related to water distribution systems. Basic practices, methods, and equipment used in distribution systems. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. Use of hazardous chemicals. Excellent public contact and customer service skills. Traffic laws and ordinances.
Skill in: Operating equipment and tools used in the maintenance and repair of water systems. Operating and maintaining all assigned vehicles or equipment. Performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance. Reading and interpreting policy and procedure manuals. Communicating clearly and concisely, primarily in verbal form.
Ability to: Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in the area of work assigned. Operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner. Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to recognize occupational hazards in work activities and take safety precautions. Performing heavy manual labor. Work the allocated hours of the position.
Work Environment: Involves travel from site to site in a company vehicle, working in a field environment including frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and outdoor weather conditions.
Physical and Mental Requirements/Activities: This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 100 pounds of lifting/moving or force and occasional lift, move or drag 75-100 pounds or more while performing essential functions of the job. Work regularly requires the ability to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others in English. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, material safety data sheets, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and following directions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Certification: Equivalent to completion of High School or GED.
Certifications Required: Must maintain a valid license and ability to obtain and maintain a Class D Water Treatment (training provided) within one year of hire during employment.
