CDL with passenger endorsement required. $21.50/hour 30-40 hours/week with medical, dental, vision, retirement & paid parental leave benefits. JOB SUMMARY: Operates various vehicles and transports senior passengers throughout La Plata County; performs a variety of tasks related to vehicle operations and transportation to ensure compliance with safety requirements and regulations; provides high level of customer service and public relations activities related to providing services to seniors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Reasonable accommodations, as defined under the American with Disabilities Act, will be made when possible. Drives vehicle on designated route according to established time schedule. Maintains records on money collected and ticket counts; records information on the number and type of passengers, fuel, mileage, and related information. Performs pre-trip and post-trip, safety and maintenance checks on vehicles; identifies defects and document on appropriate form. Assist Passengers Door-to-Door Transport seniors as directed; ie: from home to meal sites, medical appointments, shopping, post office and recreation activities. Transports and delivers meals to home-bound seniors. Assists passengers requiring special assistance, including operating wheel chair lifts, walkers and restraints (for individuals weighing 100-250 lbs). Performs other related duties as assigned. Regular and predictable attendance is required.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED: General Office Equipment, Computers, wheelchairs, Vehicles including buses and ADA lifts
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED; and, One year of related experience; or, Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver’s License (CDL required) CPR Certification Defibrillator AED Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: Operational characteristics of vehicles. Basic record-keeping principles and practices. Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations. Standard vehicle safety procedures. Recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques.
Skill in: Operating a large vehicle in varied weather and road conditions Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines, sometimes in stressful situations. Working effectively with the public. Performing appropriate preventative maintenance checks on vehicles. Communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing. Using mathematics. Basic Computer Skills.
Ability to: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, maps, and so forth. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands: While performing the essential functions the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions including snow and ice. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time, to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; assist passengers who weigh between 100-250 pounds from the vehicle to their home in wheelchairs or walkers, to speak and hear; to verbally communicate to exchange information. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Working time may require irregular hours. Employee shall not operate vehicles while taking any medication which may affect driving ability.
