LA PLATA COUNTY Facilities & Grounds: Custodial Worker - Performs routine custodial duties for County buildings, facilities & grounds, including some maintenance duties. This is a nighttime position: hours 3:30 pm – 12:00 am. Operates equipment & machines related to the work & snow removal. Requires background check & valid driver's license. $23.11/hour. JOB SUMMARY: Performs routine maintenance of County buildings, facilities, grounds, and/or equipment. This is primarily an evening position. Work hours are typically 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. with a one-half hour lunch period.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Washes windows, walls, wood work, and blinds. Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; replaces toilet paper and paper towels. Vacuums, sweeps, and mops and buffs floors. Strips, waxes and buffs floors as required. Operates floor cleaning machines/equipment. Places hazard signs to assure that the public is aware of potentially slick or wet floors. Collects and disposes of refuse. Washes trash cans/receptacles as necessary. Cleans and polishes furniture, brass, and other metal and wood work. Cleans sidewalks and outside areas of debris or snow and ice. Operates portable cleaner to pressure wash/steam-clean exterior surfaces. Assists in room/event set-up as restrictions allow. Performs other light building maintenance and manual tasks. Checks fire extinguishers as necessary. Replaces light bulbs and tubes. Moves office equipment including desks, files, books, etc. for County offices. Runs errands as required; delivers equipment to offices; picks up tools and materials. Drives pickups, SUVs, ATVs, and light trucks and trailers. Operates equipment during loading of barricades, chairs, tables and other event accessories on County property. Interacts with the public to exchange and/or provide information. Operates lighting controls for arena and ball fields. Operates arena grooming equipment during events as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Regular and predictable attendance is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience: No prior education; and, One to two years of progressively responsible related experience; or, Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: Cleaning materials, methods, equipment and procedures. Basic maintenance and routine repair techniques for equipment utilized in the performance of the essential functions of the job. Use of methods, equipment and procedures of cleaning materials. Occupational hazards of building trades and of necessary safety precautions. Procedures, policies, and operations within area of assignment.
Skill in: Operating and maintaining all assigned equipment. Effective oral communications.
Ability to: Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands: While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Essential functions of this job also require the employee to frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, speak and hear, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, the incumbent may be required to lift and/or move 100 pounds. Working time may require irregular hours, on-call, and\or shift times. The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately loud.
