Position Summary:
The Campus Audiovisual Technology Services (CATS) team maintains the AV equipment throughout campus to ensure that all students, staff, and community clients are able to use the provided technology properly. The CATS team also supports any event needing AV across campus, during and after normal business hours. The CATS team designs, integrates, and supports AV and various automation/control technology in most campus spaces.
The primary duties of the Campus Audiovisual Technician center around providing timely support for the classrooms as well as supporting campus events. The Campus Audiovisual Technician will participate in the setup, installation, and the support of AV equipment such as projectors, speakers, microphones, cameras, TVs, monitors, etc. They complete low voltage wiring and basic construction related to the installation of media equipment.
Job Description:
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the AV equipment in all academic spaces both on Campus and remote sites associated with Fort Lewis College, ensuring reliability, availability, and offering support and training to faculty, staff, and campus guests.
- Assist Fort Lewis staff and outside organizations with event AV needs. These can occur outside of normal business hours and occasionally require in-person assistance or full-time coordination. These setups include AV equipment such as microphones, PA equipment, video screens, projectors, lighting, and recording equipment.
- Help keep CATS office and equipment storage locations clean and organized.
- Attend weekly meetings with Event Services to plan, coordinate, and organize schedules to help support the AV needs for campus events.
- Complete low voltage wiring and basic construction for AV projects.
- Assist the Technology Support Services (TSS) team in the large scale refreshing of lab and classroom workstations.
- Research, test, and implement innovative technologies to update teaching spaces, facilitate “Hyflex” learning, and meet the increasing demands of a more internet-connected education system.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Manager of Campus Audiovisual Technology Services.
- Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
- Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.
- Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.
Required Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Two years of closely related work experience may substitute for a degree.
- Strong Customer Service skills. Friendly, outgoing, and willing to learn
- Familiarity with computer operating systems, both Windows and Apple
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products
- Ability to organize, follow procedures, and have attention to detail
- Ability to produce written technical documentation in a user-friendly format
Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Two years of closely related work experience may substitute for a degree.
- Technical familiarity with audio equipment and basic sound engineering principles: sound boards and audio mixers, large format speakers, PA systems, Shure microphone systems both wired and wireless, Dante audio protocol
- Technical familiarity with video equipment: projectors, PTZ cameras, digital displays, webcams, HDMI/DisplayPort, HDBT, various video technologies
- Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience
- Experience working with Crestron, Extron, Q-Sys or similar control systems
- Experience with Footprints incident and problem manager or similar ticketing system
- Experience working in a higher education environment
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Reports To / Supervisory Responsibility:
The Campus Audiovisual Technician position reports to the Manager Campus Audiovisual Technology Services.

- Work Schedule: The Campus Audiovisual Technician will be expected to work a 40 hour work week Monday – Friday, either 8-5 or 9-6. Occasionally there are events that take place outside of normal business hours that require additional team members to provide the service. In these cases, we might ask the Campus Audiovisual Technician to alter their schedule to accommodate the need. We typically have a few week notice to work out the schedule details.

Compensation
The hourly range for this position is $19.23 to $20.19/ hour, plus a
comprehensive benefits package.
