Aerojet Rocketdyne is a leading supplier of chemical and electric propulsion systems for Earth-space and interplanetary spacecraft. Aerojet Rocketdyne systems are on a large majority of U.S. spacecraft and we have on-going programs supporting European and Japanese customers. Our programs span the range from basic research for next-generation systems to on-going production for current missions.
We are seeking a Boiler Operator / Mechanic at our Redmond, WA location.
In this role you will perform any and all tasks to service, operate and maintain boilers and steam traps. Perform major maintenance tasks with moderate supervision. Specify and install boiler support equipment such as water treatment systems and pumps to improve and maintain boiler operation.
This position can be filled at this level or one level higher.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
- Diagnose causes of breakdowns. Repair, service, fabricate, install and rebuild plant boilers and/or accessories as required.
- Perform electrical maintenance and install new boiler equipment.
- Perform other related maintenance work such as pipe fitting and be able to work from blueprints, drawings or sketches.
- Maintain record of time and material used on jobs and prepare work report.
- Collect and dispose of all regulated waste in a proper manner.
- Direct the work of lesser skilled craftsmen as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned. Duties will be performed both outside and in a shop and utility room environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently exposed to mechanical, electrical and chemical processes requiring the use of protective eyewear, footwear and other protective devices. Employee may be required to be on call and will perform weekend and holiday work. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. These are considered essential duties and are illustrative of those job tasks which are fundamental. Employees may be required to perform additional related duties as may be assigned by management. Requirements
High School graduate or GED plus at least five (5) years’ experience in Boiler maintenance.
Requires participation in our Emergency Response Team and respirator certification.
Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:
- Requires the ability to read electrical schematics and be highly competent working with computers, controllers and running software programs.
- Experience working around hazardous materials or environments needed.
- Must be willing to work other shifts and overtime to meet test schedules.
- Experience with installing and integrating PLC systems is desirable.
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person.
Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Workplace includes areas where chemical materials are encountered. The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto.
